Information for healthcare professionals
What to expect now that the new TotalAssist financial assistance program launched July 1, 2026

The announcement of this strategic merger brings together two trusted nonprofit organizations to better support you and your patients. On July 1, 2026, we transitioned to a combined program, TotalAssist, for all new financial assistance applications. Our goal is to simplify navigation, expand program offerings, and provide clearer pathways to financial assistance and patient support.
Current grants
If your patient enrolled in financial assistance from either Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief program or the PAN Foundation prior to July 1, 2026, their grant will remain active throughout the entire grant period as long as grant use requirements continue to be met.
For PAF Co-Pay Relief program grants:
- There will be no change to the eligible expenses that the grant can be used for and there are no changes to the grant use requirements.
- Claims will continue to be processed using the existing pharmacy card information that was issued at approval for the full eligibility period of your patient’s grant.
- You will now use the TotalAssist portal (Portal.TotalAssist.org) and call center (866-512-3861) to manage your patient’s PAF Co-Pay Relief Program grant.
For PAN grants:
- PAN premium grants and transportation grants will see no change to the eligible expenses the grant can be used for and there is no change to the grant use requirements.
- PAN copay grants are eligible for expanded covered expenses beginning July 1 to include:
- Medication copays, coinsurance, and deductibles
- Health insurance premiums
- Office visit copays the day of treatment
- Administration charges the day of treatment
- We no longer operate a disease fund wait list. Instead, anyone can sign up for the TotalAssist Fund Notification System at TotalAssist.org/notify.
- Claims will continue to be processed using the existing pharmacy card information that was issued at approval for the full eligibility period of your patient’s grant.
- You will now use the TotalAssist portal (Portal.TotalAssist.org) and call center (866-512-3861) to manage your patient’s PAN grant.
Through TotalAssist, Patient Advocate Foundation helps patients afford the cost of healthcare with grants to eligible individuals. Covering nearly 150 serious and chronic conditions, TotalAssist is the nation’s most comprehensive charitable patient assistance program. Learn more and apply today.
TotalAssist and new grants
All new grant applications will be through TotalAssist
On July 1, 2026, Patient Advocate Foundation launched TotalAssist, the nation’s largest charitable patient assistance program. All new financial assistance applications at Patient Advocate Foundation will be through our TotalAssist program.
How TotalAssist can help your patients
- The great news is that TotalAssist includes nearly 150 disease-specific and health equity financial assistance funds—from cancer and rare diseases to chronic and complex illnesses.
- TotalAssist allows patients to apply their grant toward multiple out-of-pocket healthcare costs, including medication copays, coinsurance, and deductibles, health insurance premiums, office visit charges the day of treatment, and administration charges related to treatment.
- Financial assistance through TotalAssist is not a loan or discount, but is charitable funding awarded to individuals to help with eligible out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
Case management
In addition to offering financial assistance through TotalAssist, Patient Advocate Foundation also offers free, one-on-one support to patients and families through our case management services. Through these case management services, including our CareLine case managers, we help people solve real-life problems related to serious health conditions.
